answer, reply, respond 和 tell 的区别
answer 是最基础的“回答”；reply 更常用于邮件、消息、评论；respond 偏正式，表示回应请求或事件；tell 是“告诉某人某事”，不是“回答问题”。
answer = 回答问题、电话或一般询问；reply = 回复邮件、消息或评论；respond = 对请求、投诉、问卷或事件作出正式回应；tell = 告诉某人信息、事实、消息或指令。

当你要回答问题、接电话，或对一般询问作出直接回应时，用 answer。
当你在回邮件、消息、评论，或发一个简短回复时，用 reply。

不要把所有“回复”都写成 answer。写邮件或回消息时，reply 通常更自然；但 answer an email 也可以，只是没有 reply to an email 那么常见。
把 answer 和 question、phone 绑在一起记：answer a question, answer the phone。
reply
reply = 用消息、回信或简短回应来回复别人。
He didn't reply to my email about the meeting.
他没有回复我关于会议的邮件。
I replied to her message during lunch.
我午饭时回复了她的消息。
不要说 *reply my email*。正确是 reply to my email。若想直接接宾语，通常用 answer 更顺。
看到 email、message、comment，优先想到 reply；而且常常要带 to。
respond
respond = 对请求、批评、事件等作出回应，通常更正式。
Please respond to the survey by Friday.
请在周五前回复这份问卷。
The company responded to the complaint within 24 hours.
公司在24小时内回应了投诉。
不要说 *respond the request*。respond 后面通常要加 to：respond to the request, respond to criticism。
把 respond 和 to 一起记，再联想到 request、complaint、survey、criticism。
tell
tell = 告诉某人某事，重点是传递信息，不是“回答”。
Tell the manager the meeting is postponed.
告诉经理会议改期了。
Please tell me the truth.
请告诉我真相。
不要把 tell 当成“回答问题”。不能说 *tell the question*，要说 answer the question。另外也不要说 *tell to me*，正确是 tell me。
记住 tell someone something：tell me the truth, tell the manager the news。
常见错误
中文里一个“回答”常想全部用 tell 或 respond，但 tell 不是“回答”，而是“告诉某人”。另外 respond 后面通常要接 to，不能说 *respond the email*，要说 respond to the email。
